Simple Tips for Avoiding Common Mistakes When Laying Natural Turf

Hello, my name is Terry and this is my landscaping blog. Today I will be giving you, my dear readers, the best advice I can give when it comes to landscaping your gardens, your commercial property or anywhere else. I must point out here that I am not what you would call a professional landscaper. I am a self-taught man who has spent many years making mistakes in his own garden so that others may avoid them. I also often call up my brother-in-law who is a professional landscaper for further advice. I hope this blog is useful and maybe even entertaining.

If you are planning on laying turf on your residential property, you should have a professional landscaper perform the work. In general, installing grass rolls looks like a simple process. Unfortunately, if you make mistakes, you will end up with unexpected problems such as an uneven lawn, dried grass and financial losses. However, if you are confident in your turf laying skill, you might be able to get good results. Here are practical tips minimising problems when laying natural turf

Clean the Debris Completely

Cleaning the debris from your land during the preparation stage of your turf laying project can be challenging. As a result, numerous homeowners do not perform this task with utmost thoroughness. If rocks, tree stumps and general debris remain on your land, you will end up with a bumpy or uneven lawn. The natural turf will lack appeal and the grass might not grow as expected. Therefore, you should invest time into clearing the ground when prepping the base.

Fertilise the Ground

Most plants can grow without artificial fertilisation. However, you should not take chances when laying turf on your ground. In general, the rolls of grass which are used consist of plants which have been removed by the roots. Ideally, when you lay the turf, the roots should keep growing and connect the upper roll with your ground. Unfortunately, if this growth process is delayed, the grass could dry up before penetrating the soil base. Also, the root system of the grass will not be healthy. You can avoid this problem by using fertiliser to stimulate the grass roots, ensuring deep and healthy growth.

Avoid Buying Early

You should not purchase your rolls of grass and store it on your property in preparation for installation. If you allow your grass to rest without installation, you will increase the risk of damage to the growing plants. For example, the root system could dry up and the grass could deteriorate, lowering the quality of the results. Therefore, you should not purchase your turf early. You should prepare the ground and then have the rolls delivered when you are ready to begin installation.

Avoid Overlapping

You should not allow the edges of your rolls of grass to overlap when installing your turf. Simply speaking, you should remember that the plants are meant to grow into the soil. If there is an overlap, some plants will be on top of one another, and the results will be unsightly. Instead, you should place the rolls end-to-end for a clean look.
