What to Know Before Stump Grinding

Hello, my name is Terry and this is my landscaping blog. Today I will be giving you, my dear readers, the best advice I can give when it comes to landscaping your gardens, your commercial property or anywhere else. I must point out here that I am not what you would call a professional landscaper. I am a self-taught man who has spent many years making mistakes in his own garden so that others may avoid them. I also often call up my brother-in-law who is a professional landscaper for further advice. I hope this blog is useful and maybe even entertaining.

You need to get your lawn mowed or cleaned, hedges trimmed yet you lack time to do so? Then all you need to do is locate a body corporate gardening care service provider who will take care of your entire landscaping requirements at a cost. They also offer services such as stump grinding which is the use of a power tool to remove tree stumps from your lawn. The process uses a rotating cutting disk that chips away the wood leaving the region bare. The stump grinders come in various sizes that range from the scale of a lawn mower which applies to smaller stumps, to the magnitude of an entire truck which applies to bigger stumps. Cut down trees can leave large and ugly stumps which may make your garden look less attractive. Stump grinding is, however, a solution by the body corporate gardening care to ensure that your lawn looks good and presentable. To do your own stump grinding, here are a few steps you should consider for safety and effectiveness.

  1. Clearing the Working Area – Before commencing your stump grinding, you should first ensure that the area around the stump is clean and free from any materials which can either damage or dull the teeth of the cutting wheel. You can remove any rocks of metal around the base of the stamp with the use of a garden mattock or a shovel. Discard the harmful elements far away from the region you wish to work on before firing up the stump grinder.
  2. Preparing the Stump – Before grinding, look at the size of the stump. This will be very important in deciding whether to grind directly if the stamp is small. However, if the stump is big and tall, then carefully use a chainsaw to trim the stump. This will reduce the amount of work needed in decreasing the entire stump and in turn speed up the whole process.
  3. Grinding – Raise the cutting wheel just a few inches above the stump with the use of the hydraulic lever. After this is achieved, drive the grinder to obtain a wheel position which is over the front edge of the stump. From here, you can start spinning the wheel moderately lowering it to about three inches. Once the wheel cuts into the stump, clear it out using a side to side wheel motion through the help of the hydraulic lever. Repeat this process until the entire stump is removed to your liking. Always be sure to operate the machine while in the control panel and away from the cutting wheel to avoid any unnecessary accidents. Once the entire process is completed, cover the ground area with top soil using a rake to even out the soil distribution.
